The Enjoyment of Christ in the Local Church Revealed in the Old Testament Types

The Lord Jesus is the most enjoyable person. Christ can be enjoyed by us in so many ways that the whole Bible is needed to adequately portray this enjoyment. In the Old Testament, numerous types are used to describe the many ways to enjoy this wonderful person. Again, the enjoyment of Christ presented in the Bible is not only personal and individual; primarily, it is corporate, pointing to our enjoyment of Him in the local church. Twelve of these Old Testament types follow:

1 Drinking the Living Water from the Well in Beer-sheba

2. Offering Christ as the Burnt Offering in the Tent of Meeting

3. Drinking the River of God’s Pleasure and Seeing Light in God’s Light

4. The River Making Glad the City of God

5. Touching the King

6. Enjoying The One who Makes Us Immovable and Helps Us in the Morning

7. Enjoying the Shelter of God’s Wings

8. Looking upon God in His Sanctuary and Seeing His Power and Glory

9. Giving Him Pre-eminence to Counter Desolation in the House of God

10. Enjoying God as the Fullest Blessing

11. Praising Him

12. Trusting Him

These twelve Old Testament types of our enjoyment of Christ in the local churches surely whet our appetite to enter into these experiences of Him with the other believers in the local church in our city.
